Our Mission
Through the universal language of dance and intentional, purpose-driven endeavours, we seek to inspire excellence within our community while uniting people in a shared responsibility to rejuvenate and sustain our environment. Guided by creativity and collective action, we work to ensure a healthier, more vibrant future for generations to come.
Under the guidance of Artistic Director Denise Vitali, earthdancers come together each year to produce a benefit performance of modern dance. Their goal is to attract audiences to their performances in order to maximize the funds raised through ticket sales in support of environmental initiatives. Through community fundraising efforts, earthdancers covers all of the production costs, allowing every dollar raised at its performances to be donated directly to their beneficiaries.
Each year, the dancers commit to rehearsals, community involvement, and fundraising. As well as every aspect of show production, from media relations and sponsor support, to dance-a-thons and bake sales. The group works tirelessly from September through April to not only prepare for their annual performances but also to promote environmental awareness and taking part in Sudbury's Adopt-a-Road program.
After months of dedication and hard work, the moment finally arrives. At the final evening performance, earthdancers proudly presents cheques consisting of 100% of their ticket sales to their beneficiaries—successfully achieving their goal once again.
"There is no question – Sudbury’s earthdancers are close to my heart. Each year, I am moved anew by their passion and artistry and impressed by the family and community support that makes it possible to deliver these wonderful performances. What a great legacy – 24 years of young artists connected to the earth, their art and their community. I hope everyone in Sudbury passes on their congratulations to earthdancers – indeed, they are close to my heart."
